One win down and hopefully a few more to go.
It wasn’t the prettiest of games but the boys did enough to get the win in trying conditions and book another game this weekend against Porties. Eutin was fantastic all game across half back and had excellent support from Landon and Isaac. Both our wingmen in Ben and Mason were very busy and gave us plenty of drive into our forward line. All of Cove’s best players must have been in defence because it was hard for our forwards to get clean uncontested possessions but they presented well all game. The whole team pressed up well and kept the ball for the majority of the game in our forward half. Overall a great result but we have some work to do on the track.
This week brings a bigger challenge and I am sure the boys will be ready for it.

Well it’s well and truly at the pointy end of the season.
We talked about earning the right to continue to play and that 4 other teams had shut their doors for the year now that finals have started. If we want to continue we must play well and keep earning the right.
We took on the Saints at their home ground and knew we were going to have a contest. Last time we played the final margin was only a point in it with our team being victors.
Both teams fielded strong teams so no excuses were to be had.
We had seven players playing finals for the very first time so it was a big occasion for them.
The game had a very strong wind blowing to one end and we started with it.
We peppered shots but held strong and then fought into the wind when it was our turn.
We held out for the win in the end. It wasn’t pretty but a win nevertheless and now we get to take on ladder leaders Reynella next week for a spot in the Grand Final.
We will continue to train hard and work on small things and hope that we can come ready to play for our next battle.
Thanks,

Christies at Christies in the first final on a wet windy day with a couple of very handy additions to what is an already solid performing team. The lads were focused and quietly confident, I wasn’t feeling the same way, I was nervous as hell.
Christies shot themselves in the foot a little by not kicking straight with a strong 4 goal breeze and although we had our chances against it, we just didn’t capitalise.
Christies bought the physical pressure and at times I believe crossed the line in what is reasonable in a game of footy. Our boys stood up for themselves and kept their head over the ball to run out winners 9.8 to Christies 2.7.
A good win gives us momentum into next week’s game against Reynella.

After a great week on the track the boys were extremely excited to take on Reynella in the qualifying final.
Arriving at Christies Beach on Saturday the conditions were quite windy. We knew we had to play the conditions well. It was about a 3-4 goal breeze to the Southern end.
Kicking into the breeze in the first quarter we knew that holding onto the footy was going to be crucial to setting up the game for us. To the boys credit we had equal scoring shots to Reynella but were unable to kick majors.
Second quarter we wanted to take advantage of the breeze but to Reynellas credit they controlled the footy with slow play. We got trapped on the Eastern side wing for long periods of the quarter which affected our quality of inside 50 entries. Reynella took a 3 point lead into the main break.
The Premiership quarter is where we knew we had to make a stand and to the boys credit they worked extremely hard into the breeze kicking 2.1 to Reynella 3.1. Kicking these 2 valuable goals were vital to setting up the fourth quarter for us.
Reynella took a 9 point lead into the final change.
We started the fourth quarter well but weren’t able to get a score on the board early. Some individual brilliance from Matt Caire kicking a goal on the run through 50 really ignited the boys. The whole group lifted as we put on 3 goals to zip to run away with a 2 goal victory.
The most pleasing aspect of the day was the continuous fight and resilience shown by the whole team, never dropping their heads and working hard for the 4 quarters.
Dec Tomkins was BOG. After a couple weeks off with Injury it was good to have the big fella back. He gave us the target we needed up forward and in the last quarter he really lifted in the ruck and gave us some good first use around the ground.
Our two wingmen in Daniel Nash and Declan Henty-Smith rounded out the top 3 players for the game. Dec worked extremely hard up and down the ground all day and set us up by foot. Nashy was pivotal with his run and carry on the wing and was swung forward in the last quarter where he hit the scoreboard and gave us some good lead up options.
To round out the top 5 were Casie Davies and Chris Buersch. Both boys had great games on the day. Caseys work around the footy and across half back were exceptional. His relentless attack on the footy and ball use were awesome. Big Rig Buerschy like always was awesome in the ruck giving us a good first look at it. His work around the ground to put himself where we needed a bigger body was important.
Overall a fantastic win by the boys.
We are looking forward to another good week on the track as we prepare to take on Noarlunga for a spot in the GF. The challenge is there in front of us and we look forward to the contest next weekend.

A grade women took on the undefeated Reynella side who had beaten us twice this year but with a GF appearance up for grabs the Flaggies girls found a way to get a win against the favourites which was a fantastic performance.
The girls knew that the first quarter was important for us to set the standard and they did that by kicking 2 goals and dominating the quarter with a physical attack on the ball and body.
Our backline held strong all day with a standout being Nipper (Tamsyn Morris) who played an amazing last quarter as we kicked against the breeze.
The Mids dominated for most of the day with Soriah Moon giving us first look at the footy and playing her best game this season was Emily Erickson who played on the wing and just kept driving the ball forward for us giving our forwards numerous opportunities.
The forwards battled hard and with Izzy Dyson playing a perfect small forwards role kicking 2 goals and being a target all day. Not our forwards best day but they did enough to get us across the line.
We now have the week off to recover which we need as we have some sore bodies, but we will now commence our preparation for the opportunity to go back-to-back premiers.
Great job girls

Sunday, saw us face Christies Beach in the Semi Final at home. After a good win last week against them and a spot in the GF on the line we knew they would come out firing and they did. We managed to gain some momentum in the later stages of the first to go in a point down. In the second they were more desperate at the contest than us and took their chances to extend the gap to 14 points at the half. In the third we had control for much of the quarter but were unable to get the ball into good positions to have quality scoring opportunities. In the last we halved the deficit off the back from some Brooke Kleinig brilliance. To give ourselves a chance, unfortunately they hit straight back with a goal of their own to hold us at bay and get themselves into the GF. Ebony Scanlan was again outstanding, Brooke Kleinig and Jasmin Partridge were also excellent. Fortunately we have a second chance this week when we take on Happy Valley at home at 10:30. Hopefully we can get a big crowd to help the team get into the GF.
Well done to all other teams on their results too

Heading into our final home and away game of the season, we had sown up a top 3 position which gives us a week off and allows the lads to recover from any niggles. Finishing this high on the table is a tremendous effort by the group. We had a massive 49 players (including 30 U15s) roll through the team this season which underlines how important this team was for lads to be able to have a game of footy each week. To also manage to get 28 players qualified for finals ticks a big box.
Sunday’s game at Woody South, while not ideal in its result, still enabled the boys to work on a few areas and get around their mates.
Our defence led by Cam Nuske, Jimmy Hele and Tommy McGoran were under siege but hugely impressive on the way they stood up and fought it out all day.
We now have a chance to rest up and enjoy the weekend of watching other Flaggy teams continue forging on in the finals.
Cheers
