A fantastic result on the weekend with a win big enough to jump us into 4th position on the ladder heading into finals. The result and jump on the ladder doesn’t change who or where we play but it gives us the psychological advantage of home rooms and blue shorts. Small wins.
The boys have been improving every week and I’m sure you all will agree we are playing our best team footy of the season at the right time. Whilst we played some of the team out of their normal positions and threw them around for most of the game we had solid contributions across the ground. Yaw and Ash are giving us a physical contest in the middle which is helping us to win our share of the centre clearances. The challenge for the boys is to make the most of our forward entries, lock the ball in our forward line and convert on the scoreboard. Mitchell, Tyce, Lachy T, Cohen, Bailey, Mason and Isaac have continued their good form and with the inclusion of little Lachy and Euwie for the remainder of the season we will be much stronger and a force for the finals series. How many games we play for the rest of the year is up to the boys now and I’m sure the hunger is there. I know as coaches we want to play for a few more weeks yet. I can’t wait to see what the team produces in the coming games but whatever the results we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and progress so far.
The real footy starts now. This is what we play for and we start our journey for a shot at the title this week.
See you at the footy

Well who doesn’t love a road trip?
We haven’t made the trip to Aldinga in a while now so to finish off with it in the last game of the minor round was not too bad.
I was a little worried the boys maybe complacent in this game, so we set our own goals that we would like to achieve and what was going to be an acceptable finish.
We started well and reached all objectives in the 1st qtr but dropped a bit in 2nd.
We picked up again and kicked 7goals in the 3rd and finished the game strongly.
Our full forward, Lachy Sorella kicked a bag of 10 and now takes out the association goal kicking award with a total of 86 for the year. Fantastic stuff mate.
We now head to Christies Beach for the Qualifying final against Christies Beach.
A tough battle is expected so the boys need to be on from the start.
But this is finals footy!
How far we go boys is completely up to you. Let’s do this!
Thanks

Saturday, Aldinga at Aldinga posed to be a good game as they have some very handy players. They were sitting fourth on the ladder and we were second. We were able to get off to a good start with eight goals on the board in the first quarter with hard running, sharing the footy around and making good decisions with it. One of the more pleasing things to come out of the game is that we were able to hit more targets, disrupting Aldinga’s defence. A really good hit out to get momentum going into the finals. A job well done

Round 18, Aldinga at Aldinga. We had secured top spot already and Aldinga had nothing to play for other than pride so this game was harder than usual for the group to be motivated for. This showed in the first quarter as Aldinga Jumped us and kicked the first couple of goals in what quickly became a shootout, Scores at 1/4 time were Aldinga 7 goals straight to us 6.5. We had clearly had more shots on goal however they had clearly made the most of their opportunities, from 1/4 time onwards we were in control of the game without really dominating it. We take this win and bank it and worry about the major rounds now which is what we play for, we have earned the week off by finishing top so will work fairly hard on the track this week and make sure we are ready ready for either Reynella or Happy Valley in the 2nd Semi Final in two weeks time.
Bray Heyward-ferors was fantastic at half back on the weekend, Nathan Beenham is gathering momentum and really starting to hit his straps at the right time of the year and Mitch Johnson continued his good form as well.
Let’s get excited and get out and support all our teams that are playing finals. It’s time to show everyone the Flaggy spirit and turn up in big numbers.

The last minor round match saw us face Christies Beach again at home. After handing them their first loss of the season 2 weeks earlier we knew they were going to come out firing. It was an arm wrestle in the first, kicking 1.0 to 0.1 with a very strong breeze. In the second our backs were outstanding to repel their attacks only conceding 1.4 and our mids and forwards worked hard to generate 1.1 for us, meaning we went into the half leading by 2 points. In the third we blew the game apart, our mids took control at the stoppages and we took the most of our chances kicking 3.2 with some clever work from our forwards. In the last they came hard, however again our team stood up defensively to only concede 2.1 and hold on to run out 10 point winners. Brooke Kleinig was excellent through the midfield and up forward, Ebony Scanlan was again superb and Jasmin Partridge marked and rebounded everything that came her way at half back.
We now face them again this week in the qualifying final! We take a lot of belief into the game knowing that at our best anything is possible. Let’s get a big crowd to Flaggy Oval to support our Sunday teams all in big finals.

Going into our last game at home this season, we wanted to put a stamp on playing our brand of footy on our home deck. This was executed perfectly in the 1st term with us making good use of the favourable breeze kicking 7 goals to none in a shortened game of just 15 mins a quarter.
The boys never looked back and continued playing excellent team footy throughout the game running out comfortable winners.
Jacko Costello was brilliant with his attack on the contest and ball use. Sam Burbridge was solid up forward kicking 5 majors while Kieran Smith never shy’s away from a contest.
This consolidates a top 3 spot on the ladder which gives us a week off comes finals time.
We look ahead to our last game, away at Woodville South, which will be a tough contest.
Good luck to all teams beginning Finals footy this weekend.
Cheers, Bunga,
