One of the best performances of the season from the U13 boys on the weekend. We came up against 2nd placed Porties and knew we were in for a tough day. The boys came out of the blocks well, hit the lead early and managed to hang onto it for most of the game. Our pressure on the opposition was the best it has been all season. We gave them no time when they had possession forcing them to continually turn the ball over.
To both teams credit neither side gave up and a very late goal in the 4th quarter to Porties was enough to get them over the line by 5 points.
The boys have set a very high standard after that performance. The challenge now is not only to repeat that week after week but to improve on it. If we can maintain that level of pressure then there will be a lot more wins in the near future.
We face the 3rd place Shoes away this week so the boys will be challenged once again.

In a game that we were expecting some bad weather it graciously held off for us.
We knew going into the game that Porties would come out strong again and challenge us early so it was a focus for us to match it and step it up from the start.

Port Noarlunga at home was going to allow us the opportunity to work on aspects that we needed to improve on in match conditions. We had an influx of players who had previously been unavailable so there were a few changes to the side. We managed to win quite convincingly – 24.21 to 1.0
We had thirteen different goalkickers that showed that we were inclusive and shared the footy around.
Noarlunga next week at Noarlunga will be another test.

Coming off a disappointing loss in round 10 the boys were determined to put in a solid performance against the lowly ranked Port Noarlunga.
We had 2 debutants in Aiden Grayson and Blake Aldridge who had been putting in outstanding performances in the U17 competition. To their credit they absolutely dominated the game with Aiden being awarded with a BOG performance and Blake slotting 7 majors and being awarded 3rd best player.
Both Aaron and I put it on the boys at the start of the game stating that we had not put an opposing side away all season. We knew that playing selfless football, sticking to team structures and being relentless in our attack on the footy we would achieve this.
The boys came out with intent and we had a 7 goal first quarter. This trend continued on for the remainder of the game.
With our Ruckman going down early on in the game we decided to run Tyler Warren through the Ruck. We just wanted him to compete and give us a genuine contest around the ground. He did not disappoint and was awarded our 5th best player. Richie McNamara continued on his fine form up forward slotting another 6 majors and showed great leadership for our debutants inside the forward 50. We also welcomed back our Captain Leigh O’Malley who had a great game through the middle and up forward. He is a much respected leader and one the younger boys in the side draw a lot of guidance from on field. His leadership is invaluable.
We turn our attention this week to Noarlunga in a top of the table clash. We set the standard as to the way we want to play last weekend and look to come out with the same endeavor and intent this Saturday.

The ‘A’ Grade Women played Hackham at Home this week.
After a very wet week and 11 games on both Saturday and Sunday, the Flaggy oval is starting to look a bit boggy and heavy in patches!!
Our main focus for the players was to play to the conditions of the oval. Play the corridors down the grassy wings and direct football to the goal front. A great lesson from our U14 girls, who played direct football to goal in such wet and foggy conditions. Well done, David Hodgson and the U14 girls,!!
Although Hackham haven’t won a game this year, there is always a risk of wasting the footy and just playing a scrappy scrimmage game against a lesser opposition.
Our Women did the complete opposite!! We backed up and ran in numbers, executed close-in handballs and delivered by foot, in possibly one of our best team games for the year.
Apart from a frustrating 2nd quarter of 1 9 15, the other three quarters were excellent for the conditions.
Once again, our backline were rock solid and ruthless and did not concede a score to Hackham. Our mid-field set the pace of the game from the start and gave our forwards ample chances of scoring opportunities. The forwards worked together unselfishly and kicked our best score this year!!

We got back on the winners list this week with a win over the Valleys. It was an entertaining game in different playing conditions, through the fog and a bit of rain you could see some very good footy being played.
After being 1 point each at quarter time, we worked a bit harder and won more of the ball and had a great second quarter to set the game up for the win.
It was great to get the win up for Saul Abbott’s 300th club game, he’s been a legend of a bloke and the Flagstaff Hill Football Club.

Round 9 saw us face Happy Valley at home. After having our first loss of the year last week the team was eager to get back on the winners list. The conditions weren’t going to be ideal for pretty footy with fog, rain and mud pretty consistent throughout the match. Our Defenders were excellent to start with Happy Valley controlling the ball for much of the first quarter but only conceding a behind with our forwards taking the opportunity off the back of Emma Hodgson’s super effort from the wing to half forward. In the second we took control scoring 2 goals to their 1 to go in leading by 14 points at the half. In the third was an arm wrestle with both teams scoring a goal. The last saw them come out firing and got the ball inside 50 on a number of occasions, however it was our defenders that were able to hold on and repel the ball. Being only 4 points up with 6 mins to go the girls were able to get the ball in forward half and run the clock down to hold on in an excellent game of footy. Both teams did leave the oval after doing multiple slides through the mud just to make sure they were plenty dirty! Haha. Brooke Kleinig & Ebony Scanlan were again outstanding, both playing their 50th Club game (Congratulations Girls!) & Emma Hodgson played an excellent game across half back and through the midfield. We now take on Port Noarlunga next week down there. See you all then.

A highly anticipated contest with 1st v 2nd on the ladder up against each other.
While we soundly defeated Marion back in Rd2, both us and the Rams have come a long way in our footy progression so both teams were confident of doing well. With the game on a long narrow Marion oval and with plenty of water on the oval the dynamics of the game would be quite different.
We had the added motivation of having our Captain Ethan Johnson play his 100th game for the Falcons. We also welcomed another debutante in Dylan Smith coming up from the U15s.
Our 1st qtr was solid having most of the play and winning a majority of the clearances but our shots at goal were wayward and couldn’t quite get the reward for our hard work.
We battled well through the 2nd and 3rd qtrs, holding a 2 goal lead going into the last break but we allowed Marion to get a run on with them kicking 5 goals to our 1 to run away winners.
Not the result we were after but plenty of positives from the game and we’ll learn plenty from the game.
We now enjoy a 2 week break to allow the boys to rest up before we head into the back end of the season.

The U14 Girls hosted Hackham on Sunday in our wettest encounter this season. Even though we hadn’t been pushed by Hackham in the first round we knew the conditions would make it hard to post a score and that if the game didn’t stay open we could be in for a fight.
The girls were incredible from the first bounce kicking 2.4 in the first quarter and another 4.3 in the next. The fog on the oval had made it hard to see, even the goal umpires weren’t able to communicate, it was that too thick. It didn’t stop the girls as they kept piling on the scoreboard and ended up 11.12-78 to no score.
It was a great opportunity to try the girls in foreign positions and test their metal. All girls came off the field with muddy smiles on their faces and sweat on their brow proving they made the most out of the conditions.
Goals were kicked by Tegan Siekman with 4, Georgia Roberts 3, and singles to Amali Fox, Scarlett Clutterbuck, Emma Comley and Abby Sorella. There may have been 5 more but we couldn’t see through the fog.
Best players were Tegan again with her 4 goals, playing like it was dry weather football. Alyssa Marlow, ‘The A Bomb’ was terrific in her endeavour right through the game. Abby Sorella started in the midfield and was always in the contest. Georgia, Scarlett and Zoe were also terrific.
Congratulations to Amali Fox who played her 50th game and celebrated with a goal. Has had a brilliant first 50 and we look forward to many more.
