The Wineflies were dominant in all areas of the ground with our boys left with a lot of work to do.
We were chasing Guernseys for a long period and unable to set our own game.
To the team’s credit they did fight back and held Reynella to two goals in the second and kicked four ourselves.
Lots of individual efforts kept the spark alive and us in the game but Reynella were too strong for longer periods and finished stronger than us winning by ten goals.
It leaves us with lots of positives and a look at where we need to be, and also what it takes to be the best in this comp.
A hard day for the team but we will learn and get better.
Happy Valley next week.
Well done gents.

It is always disappointing to lose a game, however it’s better to lose one now to identify where we can improve to build on for the rest of the year.
Some good signs, just need to be more consistent

Milestones: Chris Buersch – 50 Senior Games
As such, the way in which we set up our structures for the first 3 quarters both in transition and at the stoppages, was brilliant.
Kobe Cavouras’ and Blaise Tomkins’ craftiness and clearances in the thick of things, were fantastic. Luke Warland took some big grabs across Half Back and rebounded beautifully throughout the day. Ritchie McNamara is as potent as ever up forward and is 8 goals clear at the top of the goal kicking leaderboard in the B Grade Comp.
Our back line was put under a lot of pressure in the last quarter. Each time it entered our defensive 50, we responded by clearing the ball with method but minor skill execution errors saw us give up the ball across the middle on no fewer than 7 occasions. This allowed our opposition to get repeat entries and play the game at a high speed. This provided us with a good teaching point after the game with respect to being able to alter the tempo of a game especially when we are in the lead by a good margin.
Michael Comley in particular, was instrumental in getting the ball out of the danger zone in the last quarter. As always, Michael Hegarty continues to be our Field Marshall in Defence as he sets up the structures from the very back of the ground. We couldn’t be more proud of how we are soaring above our prey picking them off one by one (week by week). This week, we face off against an in-form Happy Valley so once again, we’ll need to be right on top of our game to get the job done.

Another home game this weekend was against Port Noarlunga, who were a new team to the Women’s competition and haven’t won a game yet.
This was an opportunity to give our newer players more game time and try different positions, to gauge our strengths and weaknesses. Three of our six best players are new to the team, Izzy Dyson, Zoe Walker-Roberts and Emma Sjoberg. Again, our backline was rock solid led by Lanie Williams and Emma Sjoberg.
Port Noarlunga played a very close-in congested and defensive game. This did not allow for a free running game, so we had to work hard to open our forward line. Missed goal scoring chances and, at times, poor ball disposal didn’t reflect how much control of the game we actually had. The final score was 8. 11 59 to Pt Noarlunga 1. 1 7. A good win, in the end!!
‘Practice makes perfect’ will eventually reward us with a higher goal scoring percentage!!
Best Players: J. Bunworth, D. Crisa, B. Jenke, M. Wright, C. Wright, S. Murton
With Jacko Williams kicking 3, Brad Jenke 2, Ben Hawkins 2 and getting the ball down to them
Jake Bunworth, Dan Crisa and Brad Jenke led the way with everyone else playing well.
We are at Reynella this Sunday.
Goals: M. Anderson 2, B. Kleinig 2, C. Smailes 2, E. Scanlan, B. Watson, I. Crowther
Best Players: A. Butler, B. Kleinig, E. Scanlan, J. Manning, M. Anderson, B. Nicholls-Newman
Round 5 saw us face Port Noarlunga at home. Having not played them yet this year, the team was eager to test ourselves and with a number of unavailabilities it meant that we would be up against it and having to play with no bench. Despite this we started strongly and controlled the match through to the end to run out 9.12 66 to 1.1 7 winners. Our defence was once again disciplined and rebounded well and our midfielders won the clearances to give our forwards numerous opportunities to score. Unfortunately Mel Anderson injured her ankle at the end of the third qtr and we hope for a speedy recovery. Abbie Butler was outstanding in Ruck, giving our midfielders first opportunity and won plenty of her own ball too. Brooke Kleinig was once again up to her hardworking best, winning clearances and kicking 2 goals, While Ebony Scanlan also had another great game winning the ball and driving it inside 50. We now move on to play Happy Valley who are one of the contenders this season and coming off a couple of big wins. Hope to see you back at home next week!

The girls got off to a good start posting the first goal of the game and proved to themselves that nothing was beyond them. At half time we were down by 2 points and a 3rd term where we missed a few opportunities to put us further in front left us leading by 7.
Our girl had put it all on the line early and although they were a little gassed, they fought on bravely and had a couple of opportunities but in the end Port Noarlunga were the victors, winning 2.12-24 to Flaggies 2.5-17.
Goal kickers for Flagstaff Hill were Georgia Roberts and Tegan Siekman with a goal a piece. Best players, well we had a host of them, but we’ve awarded them to Sienna Aldridge who had a blinder all over the field. Georgia Roberts with her best game of the season so far and Erin Smailes with her drive out of the backlines.
We still have much to learn as a team, I could never question our work rate and endeavor, but a few errors in direction by foot may have cost us what would have been a big scalp. This game will send a message out to the competition that maybe we shouldn’t be taken lightly, even though our ladder position doesn’t look so threatening.
