Coaches Wrap – Round 2 vs Port Noarlunga

U13 Boys

Last week we travelled down to Port Noarlunga. We thought they would be a tough, challenging opposition and we were right. They had some confident skill full players in the mid field who got on top of us from the start. We were, too often, second to the ball and the contest giving them first look all morning. Even though we didn’t trouble the scorers we did hold them to just 6 goals for the game including none in the second and only one in the last. To the boys credit they fought the game out right to the end, never gave up and there were a lot of positives to come from the game. We have worked really hard on the track this week and are primed for a crack at Noarlunga this ANZAC day round. Cheers Hazz

U15 Boys

Before the game we talked about being the example and setting the example for others to follow. 

We started slower than expected but got a couple of goals on the board through the first qtr. 
Porties pegged it back and were up for the challenge playing at home. 
We knew they would be hungry for a win after they had a big loss the week before. 
Our game was made harder when Connor, who was playing CHF, went down with a serious injury and needed to be stretchered off but our boys stuck to the plan and kept the pressure on.
Both Harrison and Brodie kicked two goals in the last qtr to get the team home by twelve points. 
A close game all the way through but persistent pressure got the job done. Well done gents. 
Next week is Noarlunga at home for the Anzac weekend clash. MASSIVE.

U17.5 Boys

Porties at Porties on the weekend was very much a one sided game in our favour with the score being Flaggies 29.28 – to Porties 0.0

It’s hard to get a lot out of a one sided game like this but Jacob Mayr playing his 100th game for the club and Bailey Richman scoring his first goal in the u17.5 team were the highlights for me.

No injuries, a good hit out with the lads getting some miles in their legs is always good.

Now we start to get into some solid games of footy with Noarlunga this weekend being the start of a 6 weeks of tough games that will show where we are really at.

B Grade

The B Grade enjoyed playing at the bigger Port Noarlunga ground on Saturday. With 41 inside 50’s, we worked hard all day but squandered a few opportunities up front. In a most pleasing effort from the boys, we continue to outrun sides in the last quarter posting 5 majors come the final siren. 

Of special note, was Daniel Nash’s line breaking runs and penetrating forward line entries at regular intervals throughout the game. They went a long way to giving our forwards first use of the footy.

As a team, we are working towards plying our trade more efficiently and effectively in the opening half of each game. We look to the inspirational tactics and the courageous acts of the ANZAC’s, to help us in our quest to win the recreational battle against the Shoes, this week.

Aaron Caesarikow and Raeph Caesarowicz – B-Grade Coaches

We took on the cockledivers on the wide open spaces of Port Noarlunga oval for the first tie since 2019, We had a focus on structure and making sure we played the game our way as we know if we play Flaggy football we put ourselves in a good position more often than not. The first quarter was exactly what we wanted with our ball movement looking good and our structure with the ball in the oppositions hands working really well. we went into quarter time break up 7 goals to none, from that point onwards the boys took the foot off the pedal and we coasted to an 83 point win. An 83 point win is nothing to be sneezed at and is a good result however after being up by 45 points at quarter time my expectations were probably a bit higher. Butch Kicked 5 goals and was good up forward along with Mounty who also bagged 5 goals and was a livewire all day but the man of the moment, in his 200th Club game, Bradley Patterson was clearly the best player on the ground and could hold his head high in saying that he played the whole 4 quarters at a level we want on the day. Our focus moves firmly onto the Grand final rematch on Anzac day weekend against Noarlunga now, be sure to get down and have a look as it will be a great spectacle.

Congratulations to Jacob Comley  and Tristan Smith  who both made their B Grade debuts on the weekend vs Port Noarlunga.
We had another 5 first gamers for the Club last weekend. Well done to Flynn Harris, Bailey Heide, Steven Conway, Landon Konjevic and James Langdon!
