Coaches Wrap – Round 1 vs Morphett Vale
It was great to finally get out on the park for our first hit out with premiership points on the line. The boys have worked really hard this preseason and were all rearing to go. We have been focussing on our short kicking game, looking inside with our kicks and kick 20 run 20, kick 30 run 30 to get numbers to the contest. It is still a work in progress but there were a lot of positive signs to work with. A new focus over the next few weeks needs to be handling a wet footy as I think it may be that way all year early on a Saturday morning. All that said it was a first up win for the team as we prevailed over the Emu’s 10-10 to 2-4. Couldn’t be happier with the result and look forward to round two at Port Noarlunga. Cheers Hazz

Welcome to the Ugly Uncle’s Us Bus 2021.
Morphett Vale are a proud club who are going through a rebuilding phase at the moment. Being round 1, teams don’t quite know what to expect of each other but I knew that Morphies would compete all day and were very confident in the ability of the side that they had to play against us.
Hell, what do I know. I think that after the first 15 minutes of footy, the Morphett Vale players might have started to doubt themselves and with a score of 8.2 – 0.1 at quarter time, it was going to be hard for them to claw their way back into the game.
Our pressure all over the ground was fantastic and our conversion rate also very high. To finish the day with the score of 23.8 – 3.7 was testament to how hard the boys worked for each other and each player contributed. We have a great group of lads who are inclusive, respectful and keen to learn.
It’s nice to get off to a good start, look out Porties.
Enjoy your day, Marty

The B Grade Unit is building in every respect of the word ‘building’. With a highly talented and a passionate bunch of young men, the sky is the limit this year, once we get a similar body of work behind all of the players. The depth of character shown in the last quarter of Round 1 and in the second trial, was most impressive. In both games, we outplayed our opponents and eroded the lead they had but couldn’t quite get over the line. All players have been indoctrinated into and are versed in the structures that we have adopted as a senior playing group this year so it has been pleasing to see them executed well at this stage of our campaign. We look forward to continuing the way of The Falcon and are working towards future successes.

Well we are up and running, the A grade took on Morphett Vale at flaggy this week and we knew they were hungry and confident of coming down to knock us off so we had to be on our game, the boys were very good early only allowing Morphett vale to get their first score on the board after we had had 5 scoring shots already. It was through 3 25m penalties that they eventually got that scoring shot but however it happened it then got them into the game emotionally. The first half was a battle but we always felt in control of the game, Matt Walton was setting us up nicely and we were giving our fwds some really good looks at it. The 3rd quarter was clearly our best, our intensity was up, we weren’t allowing Morphett Vale any time and space with the ball and our ball movement was exactly what we wanted. This is where it turned a bit, we spoke at 3/4 time about continuing to smother their run and gun at the contest and us spreading from the contest with superior fitness, it was a battle early in the last with them having a 3-4 goal breeze but us being up by 6 goals. there was a lot of up and down the ground with not much scoring until half way through the quarter when some very silly errors in judgment on our behalf allowed them to score a couple of goals, from there they started to ride high on emotion and also luck and we found it hard to arrest the momentum in the game. Morphett Vale got back to within a point of us with 5 mins to go and that was the signal for the boys to lift their work rate and intensity at the contest again and we managed to get a steadier which turned out to be the winner. We take this win and bank it but take a lot more out of the last quarter in the way of not thinking a game is over until the final siren sounds. Brad Kirk was outstanding all day and stood up late when it counted with a couple of intercept marks inside D50, Daniel Webb was solid in the ruck all day and managed to get fwd for a goal and young Cooper Gilberts 4 quarter effort was pleasing to see.
We take on Port Noarlunga @ Port Noarlunga this week
