Russell Veenvliet A-Grade Men Round 1 v Reynella @ Reynella After the longest preseason, we have ever been a part of we finally got going with games and we ventured to Reynella for round 1 to take on last years 5th placed side. The game was as expected with Reynella being young and enthusiastic and wanting to rush the ball forward with handball and pace, they were up for the fight and the longer the game stayed close the more they grew in confidence. The first half was a battle with us being up by a point at half time, Reynella played a loose behind the ball who stood in front of Daniel Webb all day which made it difficult for him and the rest of our forwards to score. The boys started to starve Reynella of the ball after half time and they got frustrated, we also lifted our tackle pressure (2 inside 50 tackles in the first minute for a goal) at which point the game swung our way with 4.2 to no score in the 3rd term. The last term was pleasing in the fact that we kept the pressure up and played to the finish line kicking 5 goals to one to run out 9 goal winners. David Kearsley was fantastic all day and the smooth moving Sam Tharaldsen was a solid performer with 2 goals off half-back. Special mention to Chris Buersch who rucked for most of the day and more than held his own. Next up is Happy Valley @ home who had a good win against Port Noarlunga and won’t be a pushover. Andrew Brockhurst (Brocky) A Grade Women Round 1 v Christie’s Beach @ Christie’s Beach Took on Christie’s Beach and it was a tight tussle for most of the day however Christie’s snuck away at the end to take the win. Unfortunate injuries to Cath Cavouras and Megan Lowe saw us lose some of our running power but the team battled out the game till the end which was really pleasing. Very happy with the girls first hit out with 5 debutants who we’re all playing their first game of football and 3 under 17s helping fill in this week well done to Brooke, Jasmin, and Isabella We take on Reynella next Sunday and the girls will be much better for today’s run. Leigh O’Malley (Omaz) B Grade Men Round 1 v Reynella @ Reynella Exciting times for the B grade to start their season in 2020 with 9 first-year seniors in the side. This was complemented with experience in other areas of the team and included two men celebrating significant milestones; with Craig Langcake playing his 300th club game and Angus Fisher, our captain, playing his 200th senior game. Well done to all the young guys for their impressive pre-season and earning their spot in the side and Congratulations to both Craig and Angus for their achievement and thanks for your loyalty to the Falcons. The boys kicked out of the blocks early with a 7 goal to 1 first quarter and never looked back, running out 12 goal winners. A very impressive first-up performance given it was the first time many of these guys had played together. Wade Stone C Grade Men Round 1 v Port Noarlunga @ Port Noarlunga Marty Clifton Under 17.5 Boys Round 1 v Reynella @ Reynella Just a quick rundown on the weekends game. Reynella at Reynella is always challenging especially since their u15s won last years grand final and are now in u17.5s. They are a quality group. For those who saw Saturday’s game would agree that our pressure on them was outstanding. It was constant and relentless with a fitting result to win by 5 goals. A result that flattered them to be honest. We had a lot of lads with cramp issues in the last quarter and allowed them to kick a few more goals than they should of. There were some very exciting moments from a group of very exciting football players. Luke Beenham Under 17 Girls Round 1 v Christies Beach @ Christies Beach After a long wait, we faced Christies Beach at their home ground. We started well scoring the first goal very early in the first through new player Anya Moffat with her first-ever kick in footy. After that Christies Beach took control of the match. They were first to the ball and applied good pressure which forced our team onto the back foot. To the girl’s credit, they kept working hard all game but for little reward and eventually losing by 7 goals. Sienna Chapman was outstanding in defence while Ebony Scanlan, Hannah Sheppard and Mel Anderson (FHFC debut) worked hard through the midfield. We now reset and look forward to the grand final rematch with Reynella next week which will be another strong contest. Craig Bunworth (Bunga) Under 16.5 Boys SANFL Round 3 v Marion @ Home We hit round 3 with some confidence after displaying plenty of progress on improvement areas the week before. With help from three U15s and two other debutantes in the side this week we continued with our momentum and came away solid winners against a struggling Marion. Kicking 8 goals 23 points, however, needs some work but with our processes, in place, this will hopefully improve. A big thank you to all the volunteers helping to get our games going and hopefully the season all goes to plan….. Paul Hollands Under 15 Boys SFL Round 1 v Reynella @ Reynella After a long wait, we prepared well and headed to Reynella who is always a strong junior club and will no doubt be the benchmark this season. We absorbed their pressure in the 1st ¼ but we then fell away which put the game out of our reach, we found we couldn’t execute the way we wanted which was a credit to the opposition. The boys fought right to the end, kicking over half our score in the last quarter. We now know what level we need to get to and I’m confident we will have a significant improvement in our group. I look forward to this Saturday at home and improved performance. Andrew Marker Under 15 Boys SANFL Round 3 v Blackwood @ Home We knew we were up for tough day following the results of the trial matches against Blackwood several weeks before. The coaches and players took plenty from the trial matches and applied to Sunday’s game. And WOW!! The boys came out breathing fire and applied our learnings. Scores at the final siren were FHFC 8.8-56 to BFC 2.12-24.One of those pleasing day as a coaching team where Paul and I genuinely wanted to put down “All Played Well”.We are waiting for the SANFL to regrade everyone following round 3 results and we look forward to taking on whatever is thrown at us in the coming weeks. Anthony Field Under 14 Girls Round 1 v Christies Beach @ Christies Beach We made the trek to Christie’s beach on Sunday it was going to be a tough assignment as they have had a girls football program for a few years now. With a lot of my girls having their first run for Flagstaff Hill they started very cautiously and that reflected on the score. Christies got the jump on us and we were troubled by the pressure they put on us. By the last quarter, great improvements were seen in our team and now the girls have had their first run, nerves have settled and were ready for the rest of the season! Bring on next week- Go falcons. Steve Hibbert Under 13 Boys Round 1 v Reynella @Reynella Leading up to the game all the boys were full of enthusiasm and knew of the challenge ahead. We had lots of great stories with 2 club debutants, 2 returning players to the club and we had three u12 players playing up. Unfortunately for the boys, Reynella was far too good on the day. We were led to ball but fought hard to stay in the contest. Reynella won the day with a score of 14.10 to no score to Flaggy. We take lots of positives out of today and it leaves us with plenty to work with. |
